Breastfeeding Support in Nottinghamshire
Charlotte Hughes
About me
I am an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), a member of the Lactation Consultants of Great Britain and GMC registered non practicing doctor. I passionately believe in offering family-centred support and evidence-based information to inform and empower parents making their individual baby feeding decisions.
My journey into breastfeeding support began in 2015 after my daughter was born. I initially trained as a peer supporter, then developed my knowledge and counselling skills by training as a breastfeeding counsellor through NCT, offering voluntary support in group and 1:1 settings. I additionally have facilitated antenatal breastfeeding sessions for the charity and support parents through their national infant feeding support line. I have also supported families within the local 0-19 team.
IBLCE Certified
I completed additional education prior to applying for the IBCLC examination. The International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential is the only internationally recognised professional qualification in breastfeeding knowledge and support. Prior to sitting the 4-hour examination, candidates must have at least 1000 hours clinical experience supporting families and either a health professional background or complete learning in 14 health education subjects.
Both IBCLC and breastfeeding counsellor roles require continuing professional development to re-certify and re-license; I enjoy learning and want to ensure clients are offered up to date, evidence-based information. Each breastfeeding dyad is unique and and I gain experience from every family I support.
I offer empathic and non-judgmental support to families around any aspect of feeding their baby. I am based in Nottinghamshire and will travel to any NG postcodes for home visits. If you would like in person support and live slightly further afield, feel free to get in touch to discuss.
